Sure, the unlocked phone can work well with your pre-paid SIM card, but you should make sure the phone supports GSM900/1800/1900MHz which is required by the SIM card of T-Mobile.

That indicates the phone is not really unlocked, and it can not work suitably with pre-paid SIM cards.

We can not locate the concrete network frequency of US Cellular. We suggest you buy those UNLOCKED phones which support 850/1900 simultaneously, namely, quad band cell phones.

Unlocked phones are awesome! they let you switch between sim card from different networks. I always use an unlocked phone because I travel a lot and it saves me a heck of a lot of money on roaming charges, i just buy a pay as you go sim card from my destination, pop it into the phone and it works straight away! Trust me you should use an unlocked phone, it's well worth it!

I just bought an AT&T Tilt (8925) and bought an unlock code on the internet. Now I'm using my tilt with Fido in Vancouver on Pay as you go. so yes it works right away, just pop in a sim card and your ready to go! It's just great to have an unlocked phone, I'm planning on taking it to Germany with me in September and just buying a local sim card there. that way I avoid huge roaming charges.

All 'unlocked' phones do is allow you to use the particular phone with any of the service providers that use SIM cards. There's no point in specifically buying one if you don't plan on changing providers or if your provider doesn't use SIM cards.

No, you can't just put any old SIM card in a cell phone and expect it to work. If the card is not associated with an account at a service provider, you won't get any service (except maybe 911).
And yes, this article has nothing to do (currently) with Sprint. Sprint is not GSM, does not use SIM cards, and thus "an unlocked phone" is not a concept that applies.

It is very VERY important you look at your sim card... for instance att in the us is running the 3g sim card. if you buy an unlocked super phone off the net that is for 2g sim card then you will most likely have issues when getting it on the us network. 2g and 2.5g sim cards are used everywhere else in the world as the networks are slowly changing over to 3g.
sim cards are in gsm network phones..

You would have to have a verizon wireless phone. They do have a prepaid phone but it is not worth the money. Depending on how far you are from your upgrade you may need to just wait or just replace your phone. Right now several are free after the rebate and others are 29.99.

Yes, they will still charge you. I switched to AT&T recently, but when I had Verizon you could add and drop features each month as long as you kept a plan active. I would recommend removing the data plan while you are in NZ and then adding it back when you return.
you will probably need his dads social security number. It would be easier to just have your dad do it and I am guessing what you are doing is an esn change. If your dad does it then if they need extra information he will know it.

It is not like a power tool you just purchased from home depot where you have to mail something off…it is immediately activated and Verizon Wireless would look at the date you purchased your phone and then determine if it is covered under the warranty. Any DIRECT Corporate Verizon Wireless store is able to do the exchange. Also, you can call Verizon customer care from any other phone besides your cell and have them verify that it is able to be exchanged…also…if you are confident you did not break your phone…and you think the warranty covers the issue you are having…customer service can also send you out a replacement phone…and you mail back your old phone..and it only takes 2-3 days to get to your house.

You have to go to the Verizon store. It doesn’t cost that much to do it but Verizon bills are quite expensive especially if you include texting. If your on a budget I wouldn’t recommend a Verizon phone.

However, if is a new account then you may have to, I would suggest that you ask them to forgive the activation fee. Last year when my mother became a Verizon customer, I ask customer service and they were more than happy to forgo the $35 activation fee.

If you purchase a compatible CDMA phone then yes you can. It is not easy though. You will have to have it reprogrammed to Verizon software first. On some models you can just activate it using their online ESN changer, but without the Verizon software on the device you will not be able to take advantage of most of Verizon’s features. In most cases just the ability to make calls will be available. Also most phones you can purchase in Hong Kong are GSM phones and will not be compatible with Verizon’s network. Verizon runs a CDMA network.
It is a CDMA device and that is what Alltel uses so you should be able to use it.
Call them and give them the ESN under the Battery. It will depend on their policy on cross carrier phones, but is can’t hurt to try. I would think they should be able to activate it.

I assume Page Plus Wireless is a cell phone provider. In order to use a verizon phone on another provider the phone must be flashed. Secondly the phone must be compatible for CDMA network only. It might be hard to activate a flashed phone on another compatible network.I have heard it can be at least.

I had the same issue when I got my Voyager. I had to call the customer service. They can do it but I had to wait for my dad to get home and call because his name is on the account. So if your name is on the account as an authorized person, customer service can do it. If you are not authorized they wont help you.
You could do what the others are saying… Or you could dial *228 and press 1. Its an activation process that the store uses. THen once a month you can dial that number and press 2 to update your phone(its obviously not madatory, but it is highly reccommended)
if you get the prepaid verizon you dont have to pay a deposit ….if you have bad credit …the deposit will be big 100+ the cost of the phone and then the cost of the plan ….not worth it

Usually if it was a monthly (contract) phone and they owed a bill on it, they won’t reconnect it for another monthly (contract) phone. However, they usually will allow for it to be prepaid. Just call customer service and tell them that you bought it from someone else and they will see if it can be. All you will need will be the “numbers” on the inside of the phone, where the battery goes. Good luck.
Used to be . Not anymore. Their bring your own device policy is rapidly falling apart as of January and February after three phone bans. Two intentional and one accidental.
January, they banned ALL Verizon and Alltel prepaid phones. Period. They can no longer be used on PPC at all. Supposedly because Verizon got sick of PPC dealers and wholesalers buying thousands of their phones up from Walmart, Best Buy and reselling them for Page Plus.
February, they banned all Blackberries, All Palm devices and many HTC devices. Supposedly because those phones caused all kinds of billing issues, tied up customer support and cost them money and time.
They also have a problem with their banned list and good list getting mixed up so good non banned phones are getting banned.
Here is what can be used: Page Plus phones. Straight Talk phones. Ampd phones. Regular Verizon non prepaid phones. Motorola and Samsung smartphones. Phones flashed from Sprint, US Cellular , Metro, Cricket, and other non sim card carriers as long as it is not a Palm, Blackberry or HTC.

The way Page Plus is going, I recommend other networks that can activate Verizon phones including Mingo Wireless, H20 cdma, Air Voice Express, Black Dog Wireless and Lucky Wireless (www.mywaywireless.com). They can activate most any Verizon EXCEPT prepaid ones. Blackdog can also do most Alltels but not prepaid ones.. Only Page Plus has an unlimited plan though.
Which really , truly sucks. If there was one other Verizon reseller even with a more expensive unlimited plan, it would kick Page Plus’s butt.
I used to support Page Plus. If you want an unlimited plan with byod, get a Sprint phone, get a Boost cdma phone, make an account and put the Sprint phone on it.

…Activating a verizon phone from ebay….., First of all, Only a phone that says “Verizon” on it specifically, you will only be able to activate, so even if it is an old Verizon phone, assuming it does in fact have the Verizon label on it, you should be OK. Yes, I would deffinately get the ESN or MEID number off the back of the phone themselves before making any purchases online
ESN: Electronic Serial Number
MEID: Mobile Equiptment I.D. (identification)
Every Verizon phone shall have this, so if your buying a Verizon phone that supposedly doesn’t have this number or they say it’s not avaliable, don’t waste your time or money on purchasing that phone from “theoretical seller”. Any seller that is ligitimately selling a phone and not because it’s Lost, Stolen, Pawned off…etc….should deffinately be able to tell you the ESN/Meid number so that you can look into whether the phone is on what’s called a “Negative List” this is obviously like the “Black List” of cell phones, at any one time, there are probably a million or so.., more than likely less phones that are on this list. Here’s what you need to do to find out if that phone your thinking about buying is going to work once you recieve it or not. (assuming the seller sends you the same phone)
1) Get the ESN/MEID number
2) Contact Verizon / Request to speak with tech support// *611 from mobile phone
3) Ask Tech support if they can pull up an ESN/Meid to verify the phone is not

4) If Tech support gives the phone an OK, Enjoy…..

There is only 3 ways to do an ESN change for VZW customers. You are able to register at VZW.com for MY ACCOUNT, and then do the ESN change there. You can go into a local VZW store and the store rep will change the ESN for you. The easiest way is to call customer service, 1-800-922-0204, and customer service can do it with you over the phone. I recommend going through customer service. Just make sure that when you call, you don’t call from the cell phone that you are wanting to switch around so that they can help you with the reprogramming that will have to be done..
